Trekking Rules & Preparation

To ensure a safe and respectful encounter with primates, please follow these essential Ugandan trekking guidelines.

Distance and Interaction

Always maintain a minimum distance of 7-10 meters (23-32 feet) from gorillas or chimpanzees at all times.

Health and Safety

Do not trek if you are ill, as primates are susceptible to human diseases. Surgical masks may be required during observation.

Behavioral Guidelines

Keep voices low and avoid direct eye contact. Flash photography is strictly prohibited as it can agitate the animals.

Required Gear

Sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long-sleeved shirts, trousers, gardening gloves, and a rain poncho are highly recommended.

Essential Permit & Booking Information

Booking your safari in advance is critical for securing gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits, which are issued on a first-come, first-served basis by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. We handle the entire procurement process for you. Please note that at the time of inquiry, permit availability is not guaranteed until a deposit is received and the booking is confirmed.
